North Tampa Dentistry
A Great Dentist

When should I get a dental crown instead of a filling?

At North Tampa Dentistry, we offer comprehensive dental services and restoration procedures to fit your specific oral needs.

If you have tooth decay, Dr. Bellegarrigue can remove the infection and use a tooth-colored filling to seal your tooth to prevent bacteria from entering. This procedure is appropriate for small- to medium-sized fillings that don't require much removal of your tooth structure.

Teeth that are in the back of your mouth tend to absorb much of the pressure required for chewing and can be vulnerable to fracturing. Fractured or cracked teeth usually need more structural support than a filling cannot provide.

If this is the case for you, Dr. Bellegarrigue may recommend a dental crown. Dental crowns are like tooth caps that cover the entire surface of your tooth; they not only seal your tooth; they also provide support to an already weakened tooth.
